1. INTRODUCTION:

1.1. The Indian school Education System is one of the largest in the world with more than 15 lakh schools, 

nearly 97 lakh teachers and nearly 26.5 Crore students1

of pre-primary to higher secondary level from 

varied socio-economic backgrounds. The system strives to maintain standards and uniformity across 

the country while giving ample scope for the country’s diverse culture and heritage to grow and 

flourish. 

1.2. A robust, real time and credible information collection mechanism is an essential prerequisite for an 

objective evaluation of the system, based on which specific interventions for improvement can be 

designed. In early 1990s, as part of the District Primary Education Programme (DPEP) national 

endeavour, a school based computerized information system was designed and developed. Education 

Management information System (EMIS), called the District Information System for Education 

(DISE) was created for classes 1 to 5 for planning and monitoring the DPEP over 42 districts in 7 

selected States. Over the years, this was expanded to cover the entire elementary education system in 

India. In 2008-09, with the introduction of the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), a 

separate and dedicated Secondary Education Management Information System (SEMIS) was started 

for classes 9 to 12. Subsequently, in 2012-13, the Unified District Information System for Education 

(UDISE) was launched by integrating the DISE and SEMIS. The UDISE system thereafter became the 

only source of data for the school education system with respect to schools, teachers and student 

enrolment. Under the UDISE system, the schools used to feed the data manually at the school level in 

paper version of the Data Capture Format (DCF) with reference date of 30th September of each year. 

Thus, UDISE used to provide school-wise data on enrolment, physical infrastructure, teacher, etc. 

These paper DCFs used to be computerized at block level or at district level, collated at State/UT level 

and thereafter shared with the Central Government to build a national database. 

1.3. With an aim to overcome the limitations of the UDISE system, the Department of School Education 

Literacy (DoSEL) has developed the UDISE+ system with many unique features and introduced it 

from the reference year 2018-19. Improvements have been made particularly in the areas related to 

data capture, data mapping and data verification. Following field trials conducted in the schools and 

on the basis of their inputs, the questions in the DCF have been redesigned so that they are simpler 

and easier to understand. New questions have been included like pre-primary education, sports

From the year 2018-19, UDISE has been extended and made online UDISE+ (Extended|DISE) by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Under the National Education Policy, 2020, the goal is to achieve 100% Gross Enrollment Ratio from pre-school (pre-primary) to secondary by 2030 and to identify dropout children who have left school and bring them back to the education system. From the academic year 2022-23 by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the existing Data Capture Formal (DCF) under DISE has been divided into 3 (three) sections namely Profile & Facility, Teacher and Student in which a new section of Student wise Data has been added so that the current year 2022- On the 23rd, you have to get the details including the names of the students of all the schools from pre-primary to class 12 in your district.

All Government, Ashram School, Government Granted (Granted), Private School (Non-Granted), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Railway School, Sainik School and other central government run schools from the school level have to make entry in DISE online application. (6) C.R.C. The Co-ordinator has under his control all the Government, Ashram Schools, Model Schools, Model Day Schools, RMSA Schools, Granted (Granted) and Private (Non-Granted), Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Railway Schools, Sainik Schools and other Central Govt. in schools.
